I turned all three of these light houses after watching a friend of mine in Cleveland Tennessee make one for the 2021 woodturners challenge.
The small one on the left is Dogwood & is dry with beautiful grain.
The second & in the middle is Bradford ๐ from my neighbors tree that came down this past spring or early summer. (Itโs soaking wet) I used my 2&3/8 Forstner bit to hollow out 3/4 of the lighthouse, then I used my 1โ x 1.5โ long drill bit to drill out all of the pith but about 1/4โ of it at the top. (Iโm really hoping the pith that is left wonโt crack)
The third & final lighthouse on the right is Holly w/ a walnut foundation to sit in. Both of these pieces of wood were very dry.
ive not sealed or painted any of them as of yet in case the new owners (whoever they might be) chooses to go one way or the other.
thank you for looking at my work. Please keep in mind these were my first attempts at making lighthouses.
